Happy Turn of the Decade!

Celebrating the Start of 2020 CE

In a final flourish to the 2010s, citizens of the ‘Gregorian-calendar‘ countries embraced the end of the year and welcomed the new with spectacular celebrations. Now, as humans return from hibernation post-festive-season, schools are reopening, occupations are resuming and we all have a year full of potential to look forward to.

January is a great opportunity to reflect and refresh. Many even take the month to cleanse the mind, body and soul after the indulgence the festivities bring, such as Dry January—a month free from drinking alcohol; Veganuary—a month without eating animal products; or any pro-physical-movement endeavour aiming to restore health and fitness.

Though meteorologically we are far from Spring, it is also a month marked for personal beginnings, ambitious change and a wave of hope. On a societal scale, this annual marker is always promising: we get a chance to start anew, taking what we have learnt in order to better enjoy—and steer—the ride together.

For those who find the expectancy around this time too much pressure, take it easy; January is yours. For those who turning a new leaf is your thing, then guess what? It is yours too. If we do whatever makes us healthy and happy in January (and all year through!) we will already be a positive part of this decade* that we are building together.

The Children’s Chaperone wishes you all a very healthy new year! May joy find you and your loved ones, individually and en masse.

* Yes, we are well aware of the debate of when ‘the’ decade begins, but (for sake of brevity) we agree that both 2020 and 2021 are correct … and might just celebrate next year in the same fashion. It is after all ‘our’ decade!
