School’s Out, Camp’s Up!

Family Festival Fun and Carefree Camping!

Children in the UK finish the school year this month. School holidays are packed full of opportunity for children and families. Many parents are fortunate enough to be able to take breaks from their occupations to jet their children overseas or head to various UK destinations. But, decisions, decisions, where do you go?

Somewhere child-focused, somewhere to keep the parent entertained, a hybrid of the two? The Guardian has compiled a list of UK family-festivals that look to meet the needs of everyone—what bags of fun! Children love camping, mixing with new people and enjoying art just as their parents do and it is exciting to see an abundance of such options within easy reach, all set up for families.

As with everything, the early bird catches the worth-it ticket! But if these festivals are out of one’s schedule, style or budget, there are still plenty of camping trips to be had without the need for constant audio-visual stimulation. Nature provides more curiosities than we can create ourselves and stripping our trips back to the bare necessities can be more fulfilling than we might ever think possible. There are an uncountable number of camp sites across the British Isles to cater for every family’s requirements, from secluded woodland, to powered-up glamping pods, to full blown activity parks.

I always think time stands still when you are camping: it’s rather relaxing watching your children safely enjoying the great outdoors without a care in the world. The way sites are usually set up lend themselves to a secure feeling for all: you have more vision, sound tends to carry further, the places are easily navigable for independent children and the camp perimeters are often far from any main road. Days can be spent discovering the area, catching that well-earned rest or connecting with other camping families, all in complete safety. As for night-time, the less-light-polluted rural areas treat you with a stellar spectacle that no urban living could allow nor artist could quite convey.

It appears, and is argued, that we are simply made for the green! If urban families can’t get that regular fix of nature throughout the year, the school holidays give us a better chance with which to do so.

Let the festival begin!
